Stroke Advisory Group

Chair: Dr Stuart Huntley, Consultant Physician

Stroke

The Stroke Advisory Group was formed following the publication of the National Stroke Strategy in 2007. This group provides a forum for strategic planning by bringing together expertise from the field of stroke services across the whole pathway, including the NHS, Social Care and voluntary sector.

The group is responsible for developing an annual work programme in line with NHS England Priorities for Urgent and Emergency Care, identifying models of care to improve service delivery for patients to achieve national and local targets.

The members of the group support continuous service improvements by providing clinical advice, identifying priorities and sharing learning.

Priorities for 2016/17 include:

• Advise on reconfiguration of hyper and acute stroke services
• Advise on the configuration of services to deliver a regional intra-arterial thrombectomy service to stroke patients
• Achieve Equity of Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Teams
