National Optimum Lung Cancer Pathway (NOLCP) Event

The purpose of this event was to bring together Lung Cancer Teams from across the region to measures service provision against the National Optimum Lung Cancer Pathway.

A number of presentations from across the country were showcased as to how service improvement initiatives has improved lung cancer patients pathway within their own trust.

Dr Sadia Anwar give a Clinical Reference Group [CRG] perspective of the NOLCP and the challenges it presents in implementing it locally.

A wide range of delegates were represented from all nine trusts for our region.  The trusts included are:

  • County Durham and Darlington NHS FT
  • City Hospitals Sunderland NHS FT
  • Gateshead Health NHS FT
  • Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS FT
  • North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals NHS FT
  • Northumbria Health Care NHS FT
  • South Tees Hospitals NHS FT
  • South Tyneside NHS FT

The last session of the morning gave Trusts time to measure themselves against the NOLCP with an output of completing an “Action Plan”; this will be finalised outside of the event and submitted to the Northern Cancer Alliance by 30 July outlining how they intend to change practice to achieve the 62 day cancer target.
