Supportive, Palliative and End of Life Care

Implementation of ‘Deciding right’ across network-wide long term conditions

The group and clinical lead engaged with all Network groups to develop plans for the implementation of ‘Deciding right’, and use of the associated app, to support decision making around a patient’s capacity in line with the Mental Capacity Act, which is relevant to more than EoL care.

Network-wide ‘Deciding right’ training programme

The Network supported network-wide ‘Deciding right’ training to be developed collaboratively and delivered by St Benedict’s Hospice. This will deliver bespoke training material and ‘train the trainer’ facilitation to all localities within the Network area.

Electronic Palliative Care Coordination Systems (EPaCCS) Event

The Clinical Network held this event to enable organisations to benefit from sharing their experience and to support localities in developing EPaCCS. The event brought together IT and clinical staff from CCGs and providers of palliative and end of life care. It introduced national EPaCCS leads and possible routes to financing projects.

NECN Palliative Care Guidelines

The Network supported the dedicated task & finish group to review and update the Network’s Palliative Care Guidelines. This was a significant achievement, with collaborative working with clinical experts from all regional clinical networks, and the adoption by out-of-region networks. The group has continued to engage with the National Palliative and EOLC programme with the promotion and development of national clinical guidelines and strategies, including ‘Ambitions for Palliative and End of Care: A national framework for local action 2015 – 2020’.
