Be Clear On Cancer

Introduction

Be Clear on Cancer is a cancer awareness campaign led by Public Health England, working in partnership with the Department of Health and NHS England.

Be Clear on Cancer has been in use since January 2011 to promote awareness and early diagnosis by raising awareness of symptoms and making it easier for people to discuss them with their GP.

The then North of England Cancer Network adopted the Be Clear on Cancer brand in February 2011 to help with its aim of saving 1,000 additional lives in the North East and North Cumbria by 2014.

The campaign was launched early in 2011 to raise awareness of  bowel and lung cancers and has subsequently been expanded to include bladder and kidney cancers (‘Blood in Pee’), oesophago-gastric, breast cancer in women over 70, and ovarian cancer.  One campaign, Know 4 Sure, highlights common symptoms of a range of cancers.

Campaigns and Resources

There has been a vast collection of resources and promotional materials produced to support the campaigns for clinicians, public health professionals and their colleagues as well as the public.
